Kevin Cherry

I have had many different experiences as a real estate lawyer.  I have walked with clients through both booms and downturns in the real estate market.  Each experience has its own challenges.  And each experience has made me better prepared to deal with the next one.

I have worked on acquisitions and dispositions of almost every type of real estate project, including:

  • the purchase of a portfolio of loans secured by funeral homes
  • the purchase and sale of land for the development of major retail anchors
  • the real estate representation of a major hospital system, including leasing, acquisition, and sale of medical properties
  • the purchase of a 25,000-acre ranch resort
  • the development, purchase, and sale of multi-family apartment projects, both individually and in portfolios
  • the purchase of land for single-family development, including the utilization of special purpose government districts
  • the purchase and sale of defaulted real estate loans and real estate assets
  • the purchase and sale of hotel properties, both individually and in portfolios
  • the development and sale of net-leased properties, including negotiation of net-leases
  • the negotiation of acquisition, development, construction, bridge, mezzanine, and permanent loans for real estate projects
  • the negotiation of loan restructurings
  • the representation of local churches and Christian ministries with real estate and other legal concerns.
  • the representation of investors in commercial real estate projects, including crowdfunded projects

I very much enjoy the real estate industry and the people I have met in it, locally, nationally and internationally.  In fact, as a young lawyer, it was the people in the real estate industry, including real estate lawyers, that made me want to become a real estate lawyer.

I value people, both clients, and non-clients, and I do my best to practice law in a way that values people.  I do not have a “take no prisoners” approach.  My goal is for each person in a real estate deal to know that when dealing with me, they are dealing with an able attorney who will behave with integrity and treat them with respect.

Although I was not born in Texas or Dallas, I have lived in Dallas since I was a child, with a brief tenure in Waco, Texas while in college and law school.  My wife Kris and I, and our children make our home in Dallas.
